I can understand this elders desperation. Realizing you've spent your whole life being lied to and realizing that breaking away means that you will lose your family and all those that you thought were your friends can be overwhelming. Sill, I understand what you mean when there are times you wish you didn't wake up. Its gotta get better, right?

Another Elder Suicide?
by still_in74 inwell it looks like a southern ontario elder just took his own life.
i cant go into details as we live in a very small world in "the truth" and even the smallest amount of detail on this one could quickly connect this to me, so for now its on the d-low.. it is a relative of a very close friend and he is godsmacked by it.
he said to me, " we sure seem to be seeing more of this lately arent we?

Black Man,
R.L. Jones: The coolest CO I ever knew. Armani suits, stacy adams shoes, cool wife. Knew about the politics behind the publishing corporation.
I had him not that long ago. I think he's starting to lose it a little, but he's a pretty good guy. My craziest sheparding call I've ever been on involved him and a very sick sister in my hall. I really couldn't follow what he was talking about (from org politics - he was not a Rutherford fan to actual US/world politics). The sister didn't really know how to react but I think she appreciated the attention. Of course, he was involved in org politics as well and was the only CO I had when an elder that ordered me to sack one of my fellow elders (which I did not).
I did like his wife as well. He was one of the few COs that actually raised kids and thus was a favorite among elders with children because at least he had a little balance (for a CO).
Edited to add: I always loved his "wrap-up sessions" with the Service Committee. After one particularly difficult visit, he told us that he 1) felt sorry for us having to deal with some of our fellow elders, and 2) he was going to need a couple of glasses of scotch to settle down after the visit so lets cut this meeting short and go home!! I also called him on the carpet on something and his reaction was unusual. He said, you're right, I'm wrong and I'm sorry. I've never seen a CO that humble.

E-watchman says Ray Franz is 'animalistic' LOL!
by yaddayadda inin a critique of 'captives of a concept', robert king accuses anyone who can't get past all of the watchtower society's 'obstacles' as animalistic and lacking spirituality, including don cameron and ray franz.
it's mindblowing how this bloke can consistently call the watchtower leaders liars, blind, false prophets, dishing up vomitous things, etc, yet continue to preach that they are still a 'faithful steward' uniquely appointed by christ.
so, while it is true that jehovahs witnesses have not come to know the judgment of jehovah, cameron is similarly captive to a concept; and hence, ignorant of jehovahs judgment.

It wouldn't suprise me if he made the entry himself in an effort to direct more traffic to his sites. I thought the Rev Climax book was the wackiest thing I ever read until I read some of his stuff. Actually, Bethel should grab this guy. At least he's creative and writes at higher than a 3rd grade level.

Update! Drew Sagan is no longer a Jehovah's Witness
by drew sagan inas promised here is all of the info regarding what has been going on.
per the last jc with the elders i realized that all i had done was buy time.
they felt that we should be df'ed right on the spot, but because i made a plea to wait for a letter coming back from the wts they decided to hold on taking such action.

Drew & Amber,
I'm really sorry you were treated this way. Hopefully the local elders inability to play by their own rules in this matter will help your family. At least you were both able to escape together!

i was a great husband and father, however, i could not take the thought of going to any more meetings and have over the last year started to find was to avoid meetings.

Thepackage,
I'm really sorry to hear that. I hope that at the very least, you'll be sucessful in gaining joint custody so that you can remain a positive influence in your kids life.
I'll borrow Zack's line - These guys are evil.

What told you that no holy spirit was moving the BOE?
by Crumpet ini've read on and off here of various things that told people that god's spirit was not directing the organisation.. personally for me on the last time i got dfed it was the fact that i got reinstated by a meeting of the boe at the exact same moment i was smoking my first cigarettes in 7 months.
i didnt question it exactly but it did seem odd.
i mean i had no idea that they were discussing my reinstatement at that moment that i succumbed and had decided in my favour.

My first elders meeting when there was obvious dissension among the BOE almost to the point of blows. And, the fact that we never cracked open the Bible but instead had the Flock book and the letters from the Service Department. After "serving" for almost 10 years, I saw no proof whatsoever that there was anything guiding any BOE other than communications from Bethel & COs.

Did you use to believe that all the annoited ones contributed information
by troubled mind inwhen i was little there were several elderly ones in our hall that were of the annointed class .
i was lead to believe that they sent in surveys of a sort to the society regularly.
about their opinoins on theocratic matters .i was told that they ,all the annointed, contributed material to the magazines .
-

Raised a JW, I was also taught to believe that all the annointed sent input to the GB and were used by Jesus to run the organization. It wasn't until maybe a few years ago that I learned from a few "annointed" that I knew this wasn't the case.
Edited to add:
Welcome faithful not discreet! Look forward to hearing your story.

Manufactured Blood (UPI News article) -- Would it pass Borg Approval?
by SnakesInTheTower ini just ran across this on upi (united press international) .
so the question is: would the borg/gb/legal consider this blood or an organ transplant, since it comes from cultured stem cells?.

I agree with sir82's assessment. If an acceptable alternative such as this manufactured blood were to be introduced, it would be a dream come true for the WTS and in my opinion allow them to never drop the blood ban, recommend this use in all cases (regardless of the increased cost) and avoid major lawsuits. I was shocked when they allowed Hemopure since it is made with cow's blood. Personally, I'd rather have human blood than cow's blood.
They could easily use the whole transplant reasoning and correctly compare this to having a bone marrow transplant, which is a personal choice.

I was also an elder at the time the letter was read and Zack & OTWO have it nailed down. Actually, after Katrina, many not for profit type organziations were doing education work at the encouragement of the government on what to do when something like Katrina happens again, which we all know it will.
My take at the time was that the WTS was going to use the letter as perhaps part of its proof to the government that it was doing a charitable type of work. Our secretary went nuts getting the information (I somehow forgot to turn mine in as far as family contacts and the like) and also passed out a list of items he got from the FEMA website on what to do in case of various emergencies. We then circulated the list to the individual members of the book study.
Honestly, I thought this was one of the better things the WTS has done lately. I really think the intent wasn't to necessarily control (in this case) but to make them look better to the IRS. I also have a list of stuff from a few other sources and its probably a good idea for everyone to have some sort of emergency plan.
I do think the whole thing with getting them getting your personal emergency plan was over the top. Suggest it, fine. But, as I told my secretary, I'm a smart enough guy to take care of my family. I didn't need him reviewing my plan.
